Indian River Lagoon

Equipment for Pompano
When targeting pompano in Florida, you can use several methods, such as fly fishing, pier, shoreline, or the surf’s coastal waters.
A spinning reel 3500 or 4000 series spooled with a 12 to 15-pound test line is useable for normal surf conditions while fishing inshore. On more massive surf days, an upgrade in size reel, one that can hold around 17 to 20-pound test line, may be more desirable for casting the larger objects needed to keep your bait in the right location.
Pompano fly fishing is a highly underused technique for successfully catching good fish. Pompano’s mouth is relatively tiny, flies mimicking a little shrimp or crab are beneficial for seeing them, learning how to catch pompano in fly fishing areas in the grassy flats and surf zones.
What Does Pompano Eat?
Pompano consistently eats shrimp, mussels, clams, crabs, and small baitfish.
The Florida pompano, primarily nutritional diet, has minimal restrictions. Because they eat small baitfish, they allow their dietary schedule to adjust to shellfish seasons. Sand fleas are dessert for Pompano as icecream is to you and me, and by far, the most savory is squid and shrimp. With that said, any time a crab or clam of any type is available, dinner is served!

“As we experience what we Floridians deem as cold weather, the Snook have been on and off for the time being. With that being said, when we have
had a couple of warm days in a row the bite is extremely good.
Look for docks with good current movement and a little bit of tinted water. In this cold, they seem to like a little stain in the water, which in turn helps that reaction bite on artificial baits.
Some of the best baits consist of Yo-Zuri minnows or crank baits along with MirrOlure topwater plugs. You can also use DOA TerrorEyz or Shrimp that sit on the bottom where the big Snook are waiting to feed. Redfish up north by the power plant have been consistent and seemingly chewing pretty good on these mid 60’s days we’ve been blessed with recently”

“Right now on great Lake O, we are getting skinnier and skinnier. Water levels are dropping making for great opportunities to cash in on some bigger fish. Fish that have been back in vegetation and in that normal 2-3′ water range are starting to move out towards main lake points and bays.
When you are adventuring out on the water, make sure to keep an eye out for clean water. Keep your eyes open for moving water and current. Observe paths and routes from the main lake to backwaters that can help you locate more fish. As the water continues to drop, the bass will have no other option but to find deeper water.
Shad are thick around outside grass and have good schools of bass hitting top waters, lipless crankbaits and spinner baits. Live wild caught shiners may be the most effective but artificial baits can provide you with a fun and rewarding experience. “

My earliest memories of fishing are from when I was four. I used to fish local tournaments with my father in the Everglades and on Lake Okeechobee. Since then I haven’t known life without bass fishing. I grew up primarily fishing Lake Okeechobee around some of the best anglers known to the sport. I always loved the idea of being a professional guide and giving people the opportunity to see the beauty and experiences fishing has to offer. Growing up with a father that guided professional gave me the tools and knowledge to feel confident in being successful at such a rewarding career.
At the age of 21, I joined the United States Coast Guard. I’ve been on active duty for the past six years. I’ve taken many lessons and fundamentals from my time served and have applied them to many different aspects of my life in order to make myself a well-rounded professional mariner and human being.

Another adventure I love to share with people is the pursuit of the beautiful peacock bass. The peacock bass was introduced here in South Florida in the 1980’s. Originally from the Amazon regions of South America, this fish is as ferocious as it is colorful. Sometimes putting up a fight you weren’t bargaining for.
As a matter of fact, from Lake Ida to Miami, I’ve fished for peacocks since I was 10. A very different experience that is undoubtedly unrivaled. Stuart Snook Fishing Charter

Late summer months brings a unique but very intriguing fishing environment here in Florida. Inshore Fishing blossoms especially for Snook. FWC regulations has blocked off spawning season just for recreational fishing. Conservation is one of the most important aspects to keeping our fisheries alive and bountiful.
Our local experts are highly knowledgeable of these waters and can put you in the areas where the fish are. Captain Hunter Weston has been fishing these waters since he was a kid. “August is a great month to come Snook Fishing in Stuart. The snook are stacked in the inlet and you can catch that fish of your dreams!”
Captain Hunter had the pleasure of fishing with Bill and his son. They were traveling to Stuart to catch a GIANT SNOOK. More importantly, they wanted to just be able to get out on the water and have a great day of fishing. There is nothing like bonding with your family when setting the hook into some of the most sought-after game fish in Florida!
Summer time heat and storms were lingering overhead on this fishing trip. When you come to Florida and you want to go out fishing, be prepared to battle the conditions but know you will also catch some great fish in between. The conditions in the morning kept the temperatures lower which was a blessing for everyone on the boat. It also allowed for the bite to start quickly.
The most effective bait to enjoy a Stuart Snook Fishing Charter is live bait. Captain Hunter, Bill and his son shot out of the inlet in the early morning hours and headed a few miles south. They approached a barge and loaded up the live well on greenies. It is a small silver bait fish that is highly productive for catching Snook here along the Treasure Coast.
After catching all the bait they needed, it was a quick travel back to the Saint Lucie Inlet. Schools of Snook were stacked inside the inlet making for a great day of inshore fishing. According to Captain Hunter, “Once you find a pod, be sure to pull off of them in order to keep pressure off the school and make long casts.” This is a critical component to having a successful fishing trip especially when looking for quality Snook and the schools are thick with them.
Another key component to having an amazing Stuart Snook Fishing Trip is to not leave the school once you found them. Don’t ever leave fish to find fish. Sometimes the bite can get slower but overall if you wait them out, you will get them to eat again.
Bill and his son had a great day of fishing. They were not looking for big numbers but some nice quality fish on their fishing charter. They landed 5 beautiful Snook. The biggest measured in at 31 inches. Bill and his son also got to experience fighting and catching 2 giant barracuda. The best part of the trip was the ability for Bill’s son to jump a Tarpon at the end of the fishing trip. Jumping a Tarpon means, fighting the tarpon until it breaks off or spits the hook.
